Penne alla Vodka has quickly become one of my favorite meals lately! Or really I should say vodka pasta as you can use any type of pasta you’d like! Besides penne, shells and rigatoni are some of my favorites just to name a few. It’s full of flavor of onion, garlic, and basil in a rich and creamy sauce. I serve mine topped with grated parmesan and a side of garlic bread to really complete the meal. Keep reading to find out how to make it yourself!
Ingredients:
- Crushed Tomatoes
- Garlic Cloves
- Onion
- Butter
- Heavy Cream
- Vodka
- Chili Flakes
- Salt
- Pepper
- Fresh Basil
- Penne Pasta
How to Make Penne alla Vodka:
Start by chopping your onion and mincing your garlic. Wash and chop your basil. I usually use approximately 2-3 basil leaves, depending on their size.
Melt butter in a large pot over medium heat on the stove. Add in onion and garlic and sautee until translucent, approximately 10 minutes.
Add in red chili flakes and vodka and simmer for approximately 10 minutes or so to reduce the vodka.
Add in the crushed tomatoes and season with salt and pepper to taste.
Optional Step: Use an immersion blender at this point if you want a smoother consistency.
Reduce heat to low/medium and add the heavy cream and stir. Simmer for approximately 30 minutes.
While your sauce is simmering, boil your water for the pasta and cook according to package instructions.
Add your pasta and basil to the sauce and stir to fully combine.
Enjoy!
